Black Walnut Gardens ….. has been around now for almost 16 years. As well as, of course growing lots of things…….flowers, herbs, vegetables ……, it’s also a facility with an emphasis on the needy population in the County ……seniors, young kids “at risk” ….. some of the fragile animal population. We are involved with programs with our First Nations neighbours and share some programming more nationally and sometimes internationally. Right now we’re hard at work, in conjunction with the CNIB, in finishing the design of a wonderful, fragrant/tactile garden. There are in fact 27 organic beds absolutely bursting with heritage, exotic, and medicinal produce. Sprinkled throughout the year are wonderful symposia, workshops, tours and concerts in the gardens. Added to the mix now is a serious half acre’s worth of Tall Poppy produce….. figs, artichokes, tomatillos, rainbow chard, ground cherries, gooseberries, and tons of other “normal” and unusual organic goodies.

Danielle, one half of the new Tall Poppy “directorship” grew up at Black Walnut Gardens picking and planting some of this. We’ll be bringing in some of our yummy chutneys, jams, fabulous pickles (you should try the baby brussel sprouts), to be enjoyed at the restaurant.
