Back on the menu today is an old fave, East African pea soup, made with all the good “c” words: coriander, chile, cayenne, cardamom, cinnamon and cumin. Pureed sweet potato is the base with just enough heat to kickstart your weekend.

Doing a little Googling to find something to say about steel cut oats,  (I had them at the café for the first time yesterday morning.) (I KNOW. We’ve been open 6 months and this is the first time I’ve had them? Outrageous! But now I understand why everyone’s been raving. It was a bowlful of comfort and sustenance.) I found the dullest website ever that I just have to share. More than you could ever want to know about steel cut oats: http://steelcutoats.org/

There’s a good article in New York Magazine, about “why vegetables are the new meat”. Foodies are starting to realize how much culinary joy can be found by focusing a dish on local, fresh, organic and heirloom vegetables instead of always making meat the highlight of the plate. We’ve always known this. We’re not just vegetarian-friendly, we’re foodie-friendly.  I’ll link the article at the bottom of the menu page, so clicky if you want to read it.  NYMag article is here.
